This is the story of Irene, the white mule at Safe Harbor Ranch. What a lovely creature with such an amazing soul.
Irene spent most of her life hauling salt blocks for huge cattle ranches. She was seldom ridden, being mostly used to carry things. She was a carrier of I think 200 pounds at a time, up high mountain passes. She became lame around age 27 and could no longer carry enough. She was given to a local rancher to ‘retire’. But I think that rancher thought she would at least be able to do some ranch work. However Irene’s lameness was not getting better. The rancher decided to ‘put her down’. A friend of mine happened to know that rancher and suggested Safe Harbor Ranch. When I went over there to meet Irene I could
not believe anybody would consider ending her life for no reason. Not only is she a beautiful and unusual mule, she has a most calm disposition and is very gentle. At first she would not accept touch. She would also not accept food out of my hand.
She didn’t want people near her at all. My thought was that she thought people=work which =pain in her leg. She also didn’t want to be brushed….that too probably meant she was about to be saddled for work.

After standing next to her over and over and doing nothing and trying to tell her that we expected nothing of her in return, she started
to accept a brush just for pleasure. And then started eating from our hands. She became one of the most affectionate creatures on the ranch. She will literally stand for hours to be brushed now…and enjoys massage of all kinds, particularly her ears! She is a calm companion to every new horse that arrives. In the picture below, she was helping Maggie, a mustang who just arrived, get used to her new surroundings. (Maggie has since passed on at age 34..she was a great spirit). Irene is a gentle ambassador and I feel she truly calms the others. She has been with me for 2 years.

Irene said Irene feels really great with this new ability. Irene can now heal others. Wow what an amazing thing to do for others and for Irene too. Irene does want to reach out and calm others. Now Irene can do so much to help here at home. So many come here with fear and pain as also their traveling companions. Now Irene will helpthem to release the fears and help them to let go because they are home at Safe Harbor Ranch. Irene knows Safe Harbor is filled with love and now over flowing with energy healings. All working to help each other and everyone here.

With all the attuned animals all around me, and literally on all sides of the house, I
have been feeling a circle of energy and peace at the ranch. When I send Reiki to
anyone, I ask them all to join me.
