We received an email from a lady who found us on google! Here’s part of her letter to us.
Hi there,
Thank you for the interesting info and inspiring stories on your website. I have been researching if distance Reiki will be a good idea for my dog, who was just diagnosed with a mast-cell tumor (on the skin) that needs to be removed…. in addition to taking blood samples to see if there are an increase of mast cells in his blood, the surgeon explained the operation and showed us with a ruler how much surrounding skin would be removed. It’s a very large area. The wound itself is about the size of the “tab” button on my computer’s keyboard. Adding an additional radius of 3 centimeters all the way around it yields a big hole. The surgeon would then have to try to use the leftover skin to pull across the hole. The reason for the extended area is that there are often “satellite” mast cells surrounding the tumor itself. After removal the tumor and skin would be tested and graded. I understand the reasoning behind this, but it really seems like too much to put him through. The recovery process would be very difficult, as muscle would also be removed and it is located in such a vulnerable area. It would be prone to infection, and the surgery itself will “activate” the histamine in the cells and create irritation. We have already decided that we do not want to give him radiation or chemotherapy. The side effects are risky and there is no guarantee that it would cure the issue. I am also glad that the original surgery was canceled. We now know that it would have just caused more issues and that the doctors didn’t even know what the condition was or how much skin to remove. We will get the blood test results from the surgeon tomorrow. We are going to review our options again but it looks like we are not going to do the surgery. As much as I want to improve his health, I don’t want to diminish his quality of life. He’s not currently in pain (that we know of) and we want him to remain comfortable and happy instead of being subjected to such a drastic surgery.
As we connected with Paddington, Paddington said Paddington can feel you. Yes, Paddington really likes this warm vibration throughout Paddy’s body. Paddy thinks this is the way you should care for pets. No needles, no pain. Paddy is so relieved that Mom and Dad have stopped all the plans for cutting Paddy up. Paddy is so happy with Paddy’s life when Paddy is not being taken to the Vet/doctor. Paddy gets to play, go for walks, hang out with Paddy’s best bud, Dad. Now this is the most wonderful generous life Paddy could ever want to live. Paddy’s needs are always taken care of by both of Paddy’s loving parents. Paddy is not afraid of this disease because Paddy knows its about the quality of life. Paddy likes the angels that you have sent to stay with our family. The love and protection they surround us with is so kind. Paddy was happy to spend this time with you too.
Next morning we heard back,
Yes, thank you so much! It wasn’t too late – 10:00 here. I sat with him and gave him my undivided attention and kept patting him. He rolled over so I could rub his belly. He seemed happy and very peaceful. I kept thinking of all the things I love about him and it was nice to be so quiet and calm together. I am very glad to hear that he knows we aren’t going to operate on him. It’s a relief to have that decision made and to be reinforced that it’s the correct decision. I’m trying to embrace the whole tumor discovery that it was a chance for us to appreciate what we have. And the vet hospital called me back with the blood test results – the technician said the doctor reviewed them and they are “great” – that’s all she said, and all I needed to hear! I am going to talk with the vet who did the needle biopsy (the one who diagnosed for us) and ask her if she can further interpret the results for me and I will explain that we are not going to put him through surgery. I hope that it was easy for you to connect with Paddy and that you enjoyed working with him. Since he’s low to the ground, we are going to continue to protect the spot (which is healing nicely) and monitor it to watch it improve. Perhaps in a few weeks we can arrange for the other Reiki treatment to check in and see how things are? Thank you for sending the energy and angels! I am grateful to both of you. I just checked out the fans on your FB page – how touching! You’re right, it looks like a great community of animal lovers. We’re glad to be in those ranks!

Update from Paddington’s Mom : How wonderful! Thank you so much. Paddy is doing great. His spot is really healing well, we don’t have it wrapped up as much – although he did seem to enjoy his little wrap! I called the groomer this morning and am waiting to hear back from her to schedule a “day of beauty” – he needs it because the snow mats his hair and we had held back on brushing for a few weeks there. I will explain his circumstance to the groomer so she can be extra gentle.
I will definitely give him a big hug! Thanks so much!
Hugs to you too!
