As we continue to meet new fur babies we always learn something new, be it something they teach us about love, connections between pet and owner, views about our planet or even celestial beings! Candy and I were so moved by a fish, yes, a very special blue betta fish named Blueberry.
We got this email from Blueberry’s Mom: the email itself touched Candy and I so much. We were quite excited to connect with Blueberry! About Blueberry! I bought him in July after walking past the shelves of betta fish on the way out of the cat litter aisle. I noticed this fish looking right at me and wiggling back and forth. It seemed very deliberate. I went on with my shopping but couldn’t stop thinking about that fish so I went back and got him. (I later learned betta fish tend to pick you, like a dog would.) I’ve never had a betta fish and I have concern for his little happiness! I’ve read a variety of conflicting information on how much to feed them and understand it really depends on the fish. After feeding him the smallest recommended amount early on, I noticed that he knows his food is kept in a little soy sauce bowl by his condo and he stares at it and wiggles back and forth then when I give him a piece he “runs” and jumps after it like a dog would a bone! I thought he was hungry and I wasn’t feeding him enough. Though I’ve noticed that he’s a little bloated so I gather I’m feeding him a bit too much. But he’s always looking at that darn food bowl. So I worry that he is just bored and I of course want to please him. I bought him an exercise mirror but he doesn’t seem to dig it. He flares his gills at it once or twice then swims over to the food bowl. So I believe some healing is in order for him and perhaps some understanding will come from it for me! And I hope he is happy with his fish condo and the temperature.
