We arrived at a chilly and windy reception- the weather in CA, a big surprise. I am sure it was very disappointing for the event planners to have so much wind and be so chilly 2 days before the event. You can’t predict the weather. Well, I was true to form. Credit card in hand I signed up for every auction item on the tables. Of course I needed a basket of dog treats, wine, yes! blankets, my dogs are always cold! Boxer door stop? SO cute, I had to have it! Shoes? They weren’t my size, but someone I know must be a 9.5. Tickets to a Clippers game? I bid on those too!
I have a son, he must like basketball. Etc, etc!!
Now, the highlight of the evening, well for me anyways, was meeting Presley and Travis his owner. The Greatest American Dog! A Boxer! My favorite! I ran right over I heard Presley talking. A small crowd surrounded him. I jumped up from my plate of food, broke through the crowd and got down and threw myself at him. No shame! I wanted a Boxer kiss! That dog has a great tongue and licked me, licked me! He was so playful, well behaved. It was wonderful talking to Travis and congratulating him on an amazing win. Afterall, he’s in his 20’s. Presley is 16 months old and they competed against alot of veteran dogs and owners. They won the competition to become America’s Greatest Dog. Wow, what a title. Presley is truly a star wherever he goes. I always hear I saw Presley at the park, on the street, etc etc. What wonderful fame and I’m sure fortune is following wherever they go. It also gives a heads up and an acknowledgment to a breed of dog that I am very fond of (crazy about).
After all that work, signatures, bids, eating, drinking (wine- remember woof and wine). I didn’t get a single item! Well, I did leave early because we were getting cold. We are delicate California flowers. The wind was whipping around and we were around the pool. So I was fearful I may tumble. Our DD- Arlene, loaded Ming and I in and said, “it’s time to go girls.” I had to leave without knowing if I had won anything on the silent auction. They said they would call. They never did. We don’t even know who got our reiki session that was auctioned off. This event was not as put together as I would have hoped. I am sure the weather was a big factor. The winds. The Hotel was poorly lit outside with a swimming pool in the middle. I don’t need to say more, you can picture it. Our hopes are that they raised a lot of money for a worthwhile cause. The rescue of any animal. For me, Boxers are so important. The founders are very compassionate people and put their hearts and souls into it. They can’t do the work without the funds behind them. The dogs need to eat. They need Vet care, shots, spading etc. In fact, on our way out, we saw the most beautiful fawn boxer who just had hip surgery. She had a scar all around her hip because she had been hit by a car. Someone had found her and rescued her. Someone got her into surgery. If I didn’t have the 2 Boxers, I would have taken her home with me. She had the prettiest face and looked like a doll. So all in all, we did feel good about attending and donating our money as well as our reiki session to a worthy cause. Hope some of you made it, if not this year, maybe we’ll see you next year.

We had a wonderful time at the event. It was an honor for us to be invited and thank you for being so kind to PRESLEY.
