A lot of people read that blog (Is your Lab always hungry? ) that I wrote on Sammy Diva. I think lab owners must have a similar problem. Labs just love food. I think if I let Sammy, she’d just eat herself silly. Well, good news. She now weighs 67lbs! My skinny girl! I didn’t even try to get her to be under 70lbs, though the Vet did say it would be better for her. No more trips to the Vet where I get scolded and end up in tears. No more feeling like I am the bad mommy and can’t keep my dog healthy. Those days are gone, gone, gone!! Well, all I did was cut out table scraps though she does get flavor from the dinner plate. We tried taking that away and she had a melt down. I thought puppy prozac was going to be prescribed. She had chewed down to her leg out of anxiety of it all. With regular reiki, it has since healed and now no residual or scar, you would never even know she had a neurotic moment. Luckily we went back to including her in our family dinners. Licking that plate makes her happy even if there isn’t much on there. I know, I know, probably not a good thing to give her people food, but a tiny joy in life… just some flavor. However I digress, the carrots, yes all you can eat. (as long as you don’t mind cleaning up after her, that is my rate limiting step on how many carrots to give her) In fact when I take her and Lucy to the LA Kennel Club I bring with them a huge bag of carrots and they can eat them to their hearts content. With Sammy’s weight loss comes the added benefit of less weight on her hips so her canine hip dysplasia is less of a burden on her. SO its good all the way around. One happy happy happy yellow labrador retriever!!
ps. Lucy is 19lbs!! Good for her too. My two skinny girls!
