I have a beautiful female Rottweiler named Alexa who has a number of hip, knee and joint issues. She is almost 3 ½ and has already had a full left hip replacement and surgery on her right knee for a luxated patella. She has some arthritis as well, mostly in her elbows. Now she is again heading back to her orthopedic surgeon to figure out why she has a new limp on her left hind leg and now her left front leg. It has been one thing after the other for my little sweetie and she never complains! She has had a number of other issues, resulting in a total of 8 different surgeries and a file several inches thick at the University of Georgia Vet School. I have used herbal and holistic remedies under my Vets guidance with good results and we do physical therapy regularly on an underwater treadmill. However, she still has her various leg issues and I am searching for any and all ways to help my little girl, especially since we are now possibly looking at another surgery for her.I would like to talk with you about scheduling a Reiki session for her. I have done Reiki with her (I have never had any formal training but have been doing some energy work for several years) and she is open to it. The first time I did it with her we were both so surprised at the results – I did hands on and they got so hot that it was actually uncomfortable for both of us! It was like she was pulling the energy as fast as she could. So now I do it from a distance. I know that she needs someone who is far more experienced than I who can help her more than I can. And, frankly, I wonder what my girl is thinking when she has to go back to the doctors and have all of those tests and surgeries. I know it is very hard on her and I worry that she doesn’t quite understand what is going on, though I am probably underestimating her! What are your thoughts and how do you suggest that we proceed? I am wide open to anything that will help my little one!!
Candy saw her picture and she said what I had been thinking. What a very sweet expressive face! Did that match her energy or what. Eight surgeries? Wow. Dogs are amazing at what they can go through and at 3 1/2 years already.
On Mama’s observation, here is what she saw : 6:00 on the nose – her head pops up and she gets an intent look on her face and stares around the room for a couple of minutes and looking at me quizzically, doing her little intense talking thing. Then she puts her head back down, but continues to do her soft little whining/talking on and off during the whole session. Just before her session ended, up pops her head again and more of her intense talking. 6:30 and she just says “humph” signaling that her session is over and she headed over to me with a quizzical look to get her ears scratched and heads out the door. Very interesting.
I had kicked Jake out of the room before her session because he was being noisy and at 6:00 on the dot, I could hear that he had settled down quietly outside the door. Very interesting. I bet she had a lot to say.
Did she have a lot to say yes, she did!! She is so incredibly sweet and compassionate. The thing that touched us so much was that she said “Mom has my back. I can’t be worried. Mom always explains to me why we are at the Vet. She is so loving to me. ” She went on and on about how much her Mom took care of her. Very amazing after all those surgeries yet she is so connected to her Mom. The illness and procedures don’t bother her as long as her Mom is with her. The connections we have with our animals are such a blessing!!
We heard again from her Mom the next day! The next day she was doing much better –no signs of a limp or discomfort and wanting to run like normal. It was great! Also, a good friend of mine who also does Reiki e-mailed me at 6:29 on Friday (right as Alexa’s session ended) because she had been thinking about Alexa – and called her my fur baby! She didn’t know about the Reiki session and I don’t think I have used that expression with her….. As soon as I have a surgery date we can figure out when hre next session should be. Thank you so much for ALL you have done and are doing for my girl!!!!!
We look forward to continuing her sessions. She is such a blessing to us all. The sweetest Rottweiler I have ever met!

From her Mom, commented on our http://www.facebook.com/reikifurbabies page:
Linda Hauptfuhrer Thanks so much! We have scheduled Alexa for bilateral elbow surgery for her elbow dysplasia for next Thursday. Luckily, it is a much less invasive procedure and I hear that the recovery and rehab is easier than what she has been through with her other surgeries. She will be able to go home the next day. I will be sending her Reiki Angel pillow … See Morewith her for while she is in the hospital! And yes, Ming and Candy are absolutely correct – Alexa truly is the sweetest Rottie I have ever seen and she is a true ambassador for her breed. Thanks so much for all of the prayers and positive thoughts for my little girl! I’ll keep you posted on how she is doing.

I like the comments about Alexa being a true ambassador for her breed. She is the first rottweiler we have had the honor to Reiki and I must say very sweet energy to her. The rottweilers I have met in person had not been so friendly.
