This weekend I listened to this. http://reikiinmedicine.org/clinical-practice/reiki-integrative-healthcare-talk by Pamela Miles.
I was excited for several reasons. First of all the talk was to health care professionals! How often do I get my PharmD and Reiki into one sentence? Not that often but I was so excited to hear all the things going on in the East Coast! Reiki is being used in many of the hospitals out there. Patients are getting anywhere between 5-20 min of Reiki. They were even talking about having a Reiki practitioner at every hospital! This is awesome. The physician who is a Pain specialist said, ” I don’t know how it works but it works.” Then Pamela Miles states, well, can you see electricity? One of my favorite statements that Pamela Miles says is that Reiki helps us tap into our wellness center!
Reiki is being used in patients with these conditions: Reiki helps to balance people.
- Heart disease
- Chronic pain
- Neurodegenerative disorders
- Autism/developmental delays
- Crohn’s Disease
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Traumatic brain injury
- Emotional illness, including mild psychosis
- Fatigue syndromes
- End-of-life care and bereavement
As I was listening, I was thinking of all the dogs, cats, horses, birds, turtles, and a rat that we gave Reiki to. We were able to tap into their wellness center. Many of the animals that had Reiki before even told us, you people don’t know this, but we can use the healing where we need it. We can direct it to where it needs to go to help heal us. To me, this just was wonderful!!
Here are some notes that I took! Reiki is a spiritual healing practice. Reiki is subtle, its vibrational. Healing is something subjective and ongoing. There is no end. We need to have not just a healthy lifestyle but a healing one. Reiki promotes balance within us. Reiki is about enhancement. Reiki treatment can be adapted to any situation. No belief is required but just to be open to it. Reiki is applied meditation. Reiki is holistic not invasive. Reiki works regardless of the state of mind. There are no know medical contraindications to Reiki. Reiki is always safe. Reiki is not manipulative. Reiki is not dangerous. This is from a list of commonly reported beliefs: Reiki relaxes. Reiki decreases anxiety. Reiki decreases pain. Reiki decrease depression. Reiki helps digestion. Reiki increases self esteem. There is some research evidence that can reduce pain and anxiety. People generally find a Reiki treatment to be relaxing. People often report that Reiki treatment has improved their digestion. Reiki accelerates surgical recovery and a greater self awareness. Reiki heightens intuition. It is great to learn new ways of describing what we do! Thank you Pamela Miles!
