is a heart warming story which will totally make you smile afterwards. A little over a week ago we got an email,
I have a sweet, old Akita-Shepherd named Moose. Is 13+ and he holds my heart. I live in Denver, so when the cold weather comes in and out of the city, he becomes extremely creaky. He had Reiki performed after his first ACL surgery many years ago and healed incredibly fast. He is currently getting acupuncture, but I would like to bring in Reiki. I do have a question — I have been hearing a lot about Reiki being done over the phone. I don’t quite understand — I thought Reiki was specific hand movements over the body that relay heat and healing. How can that be done over the phone? I do practice tonglen meditation, so understand the breathing in suffering and breathing out love at a distance. Is this the same type of thing? You do good work. I follow you on FaceBook.
So first of all I explained to her about distant Reiki and how it works. She booked a session for this sweet dog. The moment I saw his picture I grinned. What sweetness. You know I was excited to send Reiki and angels to him! HIs Mama also told us there were some younger shepherds in the house that often “sandwiched” him though she did separate them. I told her it reminded me of my own lab Sammy Diva who got sad for a bit when she noticed her younger sister Lucy could do so much more. Its hard to watch our fur babies age.
During the session, he kept saying “oops, oops”. He was referring to slipping on the carpets. He said he felt older and feels old. There was a lot of robust activity around him so he sees what he can’t do. But he said he feels so cared for and appreciates all that his family does for him. So he said, he just “is”. He said he’s content and happy. He loved the warmth of the Reiki on his hips. He loved that it flowed through him. He is used to healing energy so he just wanted to lean into Mom because he’s so connected to her.
We didn’t hear back from Mama for a few days but when I woke up one morning, I woke up to this and it made my day!
We had a very positive session here in Denver — during the session, I sat in the room with Moose and had a candle going by one of my favorite pictures of him. My husband and I meditated while the session was going on. The two Shepherds, who always want to be close to my husband, opted to be close to Moose during the session. It was unusual and I think they wanted to be near him. The 45 minutes brought a sense of calm and peace to our usual chaotic house. It was lightly snowing outside and that made it more memorable.
I think the Reiki took a few days to set in. It was difficult to notice increase in energy because it snowed here 10 inches and Moose cannot go on walks if the sidewalks are icy. I noticed that he did go further than he would in the cold and the yard to do his business. His mood was lighter — he can be grumpy because he aches. 🙁
Tonight was something else though. I came home from a volunteering gig and he ran down the hall to greet me. A 13 year old dog running? I had tears in my eyes. He was so excited and full of energy that he started barking his “excited” bark. Oh, what a sweetheart. Thank you for your healing work.
Yes, I too had a 9 year old yellow lab come running straight at me. There is nothing quite like it. It is so awesome to hear that a 13 year old dog can come running to greet his Mama!! We look forward to connecting with him again! Hugs and more hugs to this one!!
